Three Extinction Rebellion protesters who allegedly either climbed on top of a train or superglued their hand to it at Canary Wharf were refused bail today.

Cathy Eastburn, 51, and Luke Watson, 29, alleged climbed to the top of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) train carrying a banner that read “climate emergency act now.”

Mark Ovland, 35, allegedly glued his hand to the train on Wednesday.

The three activists were arrested after they refused to move from the train causing a delay of one hour and 51 minutes to public transport.

Today all three appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court and pleaded not guilty to one charge of causing disruption of an engine or carriage, an offence under Section 36 of the Malicious Damage Act.

Prosecutor Miss Penny Ferguson said: “They will face fines and compensation claims from the public.

“We do not know when the protest is going to end. There are at least two days left of the protest.

“If bail was granted the defendants could commit further offences.

“This is a harm not only to themselves but to other members of the public.”
