Three girls have been arrested on suspicion of arson after roofing materials at a school caught fire on the last day of the half-term holidays.

At least three fire crews rushed to the County Upper School in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk at around 3.30pm on Sunday.

It is believed that some roofing materials situated in the grounds of the school were set alight.

The news comes as pupils across the country were due to return to school today (mon) after the Autumn half-term break.

The roofing insulation was reportedly stacked next to a storage container and did not spread to the main building.

The school has not been damaged in the fire and is open as normal.

A Suffolk Police spokeswoman confirmed today that three girls have been arrested on suspicion of arson, and are in custody where they will be questioned by detectives.

It’s not known if they were pupils at the school.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has any information relating to it should contact Suffolk Police.
