A young man has sadly died after a shark attack. He was killed at around midday on Saturday off Newcomb Hollow Beach, Massachusetts.

It has been reported that he was boogie boarding, when the tragedy occurred.

The 26-year-old has been identified as Arther Medici. He is the state’s first shark attack fatality in more than 80 years and it is believed the man was attacked by a great white shark.

Gregory Skomal, state Division of Marine Fisheries shark researcher, told the Cape Cod Times: “Based on the information I know, the highest probability is that it was a white shark.

“I can’t think of any other species that would do this.”

It was the first fatal shark attack in Massachusetts since 1936, but the second shark attack this season.
