A rapper who collaborated with grime pioneers Skepta and JME appeared before a judge to deny 22 charges of rape as well as false imprisonment and assault.

Andy Anokye, also known as Solo 45 and a member of rap collective Boy Better Know, denied a total of 31 charges when he appeared at Bristol Crown Court.

Judge William Hart told 16 prospective jurors that Anokye, 31, was a musician and member of the grime group.

He warned them that they would see “graphic” video footage of sexual activity between the defendant and multiple complainants.

The rapper, of Millennium Promenade, Bristol, denies 22 counts of rape, five counts of false imprisonment and four of assault.

Anokye is defended by Sallie Bennett-Jenkins QC, while Christopher Quinlan QC is the prosecutor.

The case involves four complainants, and Anokye will claim that the sex acts were consensual.

Journalism in Britain is under threat. The government is becoming increasingly authoritarian and our media is run by a handful of billionaires, most of whom reside overseas and all of them have strong political allegiances and financial motivations.

Our mission is to hold the powerful to account. It is vital that free media is allowed to exist to expose hypocrisy, corruption, wrongdoing and abuse of power. But we can't do it without you.
