A 90-year-old man is fighting for his life after being mowed down by a hit-and-run moped rider.

Police have appealed for witnesses after the rider fled the scene on his black bike shortly before 9pm last night (Mon).

The pensioner remains in a critical condition in hospital after he suffered serious leg and head injuries in Islington, north London.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “The driver of the black moped involved in the collision came off the moped following the incident and their red open-faced crash helmet was left at the scene.

“The moped driver did however get back on to the damaged moped and make off from the scene.

“Efforts to trace the driver who made off from the scene continue. Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are dealing.”

He added: “Officers were called to Worcester Point, Central Street, at 8.51pm on Monday following reports of a collision between a moped and a male pedestrian.
