A teenage boy has appeared in court charged with the rape and murder of a 14-year-old schoolgirl who was found dead in a park.

Tragic Viktorija Sokolova was discovered by a passer-by in West Park, Wolverhampton just before 7am on Thursday (12/4).

Nothing could be done to save the teenager, known as Tori, who died as a result of “blunt force trauma to the head”.

A 16-year-old Wolverhampton boy appeared at Dudley Magistrates Court today (16/4) and spoke only to confirm his name, age and address.

Wearing a long grey t-shirt, he stood in handcuffs behind his tearful father and uncle, who were allowed to sit in front of him outside the glass panelled dock.

The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, remained emotionless during the five minute hearing and will appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court tomorrow (17/4).

District Judge Michael Wheeler told him “You have two charges, one can only be dealt with at Crown Court.

“I am sending this case to Wolverhampton Crown court. I can’t give you bail.

“I am remanding you in custody, you will have to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court for a bail hearing tomorrow.

“You are charged with extremely serious offences. You will be held overnight in a youth detention centre.”

A second teenage boy, aged 17, who was also arrested on suspicion of murder has since been bailed pending further investigation.

Viktorija’s family, who came from Lithuania, paid tribute to their “little angel” over the weekend.

They said: “Viktorija was like a little angel, she made our lives so colourful and full of meaning.

“We can’t believe she has left us at such a young age. We will never forget you our sweetheart.

“You will be living in our hearts, soul and mind forever. Goodbye our little angel.”

Superintendent Harvi Khatkar, of Wolverhampton Police, said last week: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with Viktorija’s family and friends at this terrible time.”
