On Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th October, expert blade-smiths Blenheim Forge will host a cocktail mixing spoon workshop in Peckham, educating participants in forging their own personalised cocktail mixing spoon, followed by a masterclass on how to make an Appleton Estate Rum cocktail.

Taking place in Hackney on Wednesday 31st October, the founders of Earl of East London will host a candle-making workshop – crafting hand-poured, scented candles intended to evoke the flavours and aromas of Appleton Estate. The sensory experience will be complemented by a tasting of Appleton Estate Rare Blend 12 Year Old, plus an Appleton Estate cocktail masterclass.

The final Crafted with Joy event will take place on Wednesday 7th November, with Grain & Knot Benk + Bo hosting a workshop on crafting wooden chopping boards intended to be used for preparing cocktail garnishes. Each of these sessions will be hosted by Joe St Clair Ford and the Rum Boss – Lawrence Gregory, with craft workshops and a brief introduction to Jamaican rum, where guests will learn about the rum’s refined qualities as a sipping spirit, concluding with a masterclass on how to make an Appleton Estate cocktail.

“Rum replaces whisky here to reveal the true quality of the spirit. But not just any rum – rum that is carefully crafted and aged in Jamaica for a twist on a timeless classic. Rich and full-bodied Appleton Estate Rare Blend Rum makes a truly unforgettable Rum Old Fashioned.”

Ingredients

  • 50ml Appleton Estate Rare Blend 12 Year Old
  • 10ml Sugar Syrup
  • 3 dashes Angostura Bitters
  • Orange peel, to garnish

Method

  1. Add all the ingredients (except orange peel) to a mixing glass with large cubed ice.
  2. Stir quickly until glass frosts then strain into a rocks glass over a large block of ice.
  3. Garnish with an orange peel.

Further information on the Crafted with Joy events can be found here. Tickets are priced at £35 and include a welcome (or post-workshop) cocktail, rum cocktail masterclass, the craft workshop and a Crafted with Joy take-home tasting kit. Tickets can be booked in advance from designmynight.com.
