Starting a new role can be tough for anyone. Making that leap into the unknown can be nerve-wracking enough, but thinking about joining an already close-knit team can give any new starter the jitters.

As an employee or manager, the best thing you can do for a new team member is to help them feel at home, as quickly and as comfortably as possible, and what better way is there to do that, than with some team building exercises?

Group activities can not only help to welcome a new starter and get them involved with the team, they can also help to boost morale within the pre-existing team, too.

If you’re looking for a team building exercise that’s a little out of the ordinary, we have 4 interesting team building exercises from Team Tactics, that are bound to get your employees, old and new, enjoying some fun, quality time together.

  1. Robot Wars Challenge

If you remember the thrilling BBC TV programme, Robot Wars, then you’ll remember just how exciting it was to watch, never mind how exciting it must have been to get involved!

A Robot Wars team challenge is not only ferociously fun, it also gets your employees working together in a stress-free environment that’s simply about having a good time together. Everyone can spend a good half day together, mixing with team members that they might not have a strong involvement with, back at the office.

You’ll spend the day with a Robot Wars champion, learning all about the technique behind building a worthy robot, from the first steps to creating your robot all the way through to the battle itself.

  1. It’s a Knockout Challenge

If you’re in the process of planning a summer event where your team can enjoy some quality time together, we couldn’t think of any better than to revel in your very own “It’s a Knockout” challenge!

Another fantastic TV series, It’s a Knockout sees participants make their way through an obstacle course of inflatables, props and foamy water! Split your employees into team and enjoy some friendly competition to see who wins a bottle of champagne at the end!

Working together through participation and interaction, new starters will instantly be involved with everyone within a fun, exciting and simply hilarious setting. From there, you can rest assured that they can head into their new role, comfortable with everyone in the company.

  1. Reach a Goal with a Treasure Hunt

If you’re looking to get your team together to crack clues and work their way through a number of challenges, then a treasure hunt could be the perfect team building exercise!

Whether it’s concocted by a specialist team building company or something you bring together yourself, your team will have a blast interacting with one another to solve the puzzles and reach the finish line.

You’re team will especially love getting out and about in the fresh air, whether it’s in the city or the country, or if it’s somewhere familiar or somewhere entirely new to them. Either way, it’s a surefire way to boost morale and bring back a surge of energy and vibrancy within the team.

  1. Memorable Movie Making

Your team building exercise can be made up of something to keep and cherish forever, such as a movie making experience! This exercise is a particularly useful way to welcome a new starter as part of the working family, as they’ll have something to keep, to remember their first time with the team.

Teams can choose together what they want their movie to be based on, and will work together to create the next masterpiece, from script writing to costume design, production all the way through to the showing.

A movie making experience will provide your team with a fun experience to look back on, especially when morale is low and they’re in need of that extra boost of happiness.
