In a post-pandemic world we can no longer allow the ideology of neoliberalism to determine who in our society is worthy of decent housing, and who is not.
I can only hope that this pandemic forces people to evaluate political priorities towards the care of the homeless and the most vulnerable in our society, and away from bolstering the wealth of the powerful few.
Let’s hope this ruling is the beginning of a brighter future and a better safety net for all, regardless of immigration status.
It is likely that the economy will take some time to recover and we anticipate greater levels of long-term unemployment, so there will be many more people struggling to buy food.
