Woman held on suspicion of murder after man’s body found following fire in East London

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man’s body was found following a fire at lunchtime today (TUES).

Emergency services were called to an address in Chingford, east London, to reports of a fire at around 1.10pm.

A man was found dead at the scene while another person was taken as a priority to a major trauma centre.

A woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.

It is the thirteenth murder investigation to be launched in the capital this year.

A Met Police spokesman said: “Police are dealing with a suspicious death.

“Officers were called at 1.12pm to a residential address in Genever  Close, Chingford.

“London Fire Brigade and paramedics had been called to a fire and found a man deceased inside the house.

“A woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. A crime scene is in place. Enquiries continue.”

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We were called at 1.11pm to reports of an incident at a residential address.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene including an incident response officer, an advanced paramedic, two ambulance crews and our hazardous area response team (HART). We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

“We assessed a person at the scene and took them to a major trauma centre.

“Sadly, a second person was found dead.”
