A man who murdered his ex-girlfriend by stabbing her more than 20 times has been jailed for a minimum of 20 years.

Gediminas Jasinskas, 30, waited for Cristina Magda-Calancea in her garage after discovering she had been in contact with another man.

And when the 26-year-old returned home from work he stabbed her in the neck, chest, abdomen and groin with a 20cm kitchen knife.

She was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn, Suffolk, after the attack at 10pm on September 21 last year but died of her injuries.

Jasinskas fled from the scene but later made himself known to paramedics near the hospital and was arrested.

He claimed to have had “a moment of passion and lost control” but pleaded guilty to murder last month.

Peter Gair, prosecuting at Norwich Crown Court, said the couple began their relationship in August 2016 but it broke down in July 2018.

Her friends and family described Jasinskas as a “jealous man who would become aggressive if he felt any other man was showing an interest in Cristina”.

Cristina had previously told her brother Razvan Milea during a holiday to Bali that Jasinskas was “eating my life…he doesn’t me alone”.

The couple separated when they returned, but Jasinskas sent her a text message saying “I cannot live without you. Wherever you go, I will find you.”

On the day of the attack he caught a taxi to her home in King’s Lynn, where he hid in the garage until she tried to put her bike away at 10pm.

Sentencing him to life, Judge Stephen Holt rejected the claim the killing was committed in a “moment of passion”.

Detective Inspector Lewis Craske from the Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team said: “Cristina was the victim of a senseless, brutal act of violence at the hands of Gediminas Jasinskas.

“My immediate thoughts are for Cristina’s loved ones.

“Whilst today they have seen justice, nothing can make up for the pain and anguish Jasinskas has caused them and I can only hope that today’s sentencing assists with their grieving process.”
