‘Keep going!’ Audience erupts in laughter at Tory MP

While Bim Afolami appeared to be tying himself up, another panellist cracked a joke, "Put down the spade," to the delight of the audience.

After BBC Question Time host Fiona Bruce rebuked a Tory MP who was sitting on the panel, the audience burst out in laughter.

As Ms. Bruce cracked a joke, Bim Afolami appeared to be winding himself up in knots defending the government’s handling of HS2. Stephen Flynn, a fellow panellist, was heard saying, “Put down the spade,” in the background.

The back and forth began when Ms Bruce said the Government had had “quite a long time” to deliver HS2.

Journalism in Britain is under threat. The government is becoming increasingly authoritarian and our media is run by a handful of billionaires, most of whom reside overseas and all of them have strong political allegiances and financial motivations.

Our mission is to hold the powerful to account. It is vital that free media is allowed to exist to expose hypocrisy, corruption, wrongdoing and abuse of power. But we can't do it without you.
