An Airbus jet is drawing a giant Christmas tree over the sky in Germany after taking off from Hamburg earlier today.

The jet headed south towards Munster before making the zigzagged outline of a Christmas tree over the German cities of Cologne, Bonn and Frankfurt.

The flight is currently heading back to its origin over the east of Germany.

The stunt echoes a move by rival manufacturer Boeing in August when a Dreamliner made a giant plane over America.

Flight BOE004 set off from Seattle and travelled east to Michigan before turning back on itself and heading into the central states of America, carving out a picture of a Dreamliner on its route.

Track the Airbus flight’s progress here.
