In an unexpected U-turn at Real Madrid, reports are emerging that the club’s legendary player Zinedine Zidane is to be make another comeback as manager at the Spanish club less than a year after he was sacked.

Santiago Solari joined Real when Zidane departed last May, but since an unexpected 4-1 home defeat to Dutch club Ajax knocked them out of the Champions League, the club’s board have been discussing his replacement.

Jose Mourinho was an option, as well as Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri and Germany coach Joachim Low.

But Zidane who left last year after a successful two and a half years at the helm of Real Madrid has emerged as the club’s top choice and the Frenchman is keen to return to the club he steered to three Champions League wins.

Real Madrid are currently languishing twelve points behind arch rivals Barcelona in La Liga.

The club’s president Florentino Perez is set to meet with directors today after which the move is set to be announced, with Zidane possibly back at the helm by this weekend’s match against Celta Vigo.
