At the High Court on May 13th 2009, Fisher Athletic were wound up.

The debts had begun to mound and results hadn’t been going their way since a player exodus preceded a thrilling season in which Wayne Burnett’s (current Dagenham & Redbridge manager) missed out on the Conference after losing to Hampton & Richmond Borough in the play-offs.

Following a meeting it was decided that a supporter’s trust would take charge of club matters moving forward, a trust that reluctantly had to put in motion the first steps of relocating the club as well as renaming it.

The 5,300-capacity Surrey Docks Stadium in Rotherhithe, in the London Borough of Southwark, was left redundant. As the towers of canary wharf peaked in the distance the ground slowly decayed into a workman’s yard, the only remaining stand supporting a raft of waste furniture and building equipment.

But all is not lost for the Bermondsey team, and after years of campaigning, it seems the team is finally about to return home to its birthplace. Southwark’s Planning Committee has voted unanimously to approve plans that will see Fisher FC return to Rotherhithe in a new ground build at St Paul’s Playing Field. As a toast to new beginnings, we’ve compiled a gallery of a team that refused to give up.
