The Labour MP is looking to remove her by using an old parliamentary rule which could force a by-election in her constituency.
Sir Chris Bryant said the move has basis in a parliamentary rule from 1801 stating that "no member do presume to go out of town without leave of this House".
Home Office minister Sarah Dines say they hope to be at capacity by the end of the week.
She has been accused of taking a skin-of-the-teeth by-election result and stoking a new social division to halt action over climate change.
At least two people are thought to have turned down a nomination by the former prime minister, with one saying it would be "humiliating".
Shadow immigration minister Stephen Kinnock confirmed the policy.
The comedian announced her intention to join the race to replace Green MP Caroline Lucas.
