They proudly sing about being the ‘land of the free’ in their national anthem, but it seems Donald Trump is determined to see the US follow in the footsteps on Russia and North Korea after his administration announced the launch of a state-run media channel.
On Monday, the White House confirmed Trump TV would be streaming on YouTube 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Alongside a bats**t video featuring clips from some of the US’s most famous and successful TV shows, the White House wrote that Trump TV would be “updated in real time, with top past moments, announcements, and the latest and greatest from the administration all in one place.
“Not every big moment has made it on your tv, now it can.”
The launch of Trump TV comes after the president’s latest feud with major news channels in America, which it’s safe to say has backfired for him.
This week, Trump announced CNN, Politico and MS NOW were all barred from the White House. Trump accused the organisations of writing “fiction or lies” about his team, labelling them “Third Rate Clowns” and “Crooked and Corrupt Press” that “trivialise and demean” his achievements.
In response, the three news broadcasters said they would be suing Trump’s administration to “defend the principle that the government does not decide what the press reports”.
They then suspended their pooled coverage of the president which meant that, at a White House event on Monday, Trump ended up embarrassingly shouting into the void because there was no audio to pick up his words.
By launching what is effectively a propaganda channel for Trump, the US’s Orwellian media treatment continues to emulate the likes of Russia and North Korea.
Back in February, the White House announced it was taking control of the press pool which has access to Trump and had for more than a century been managed by the White House Correspondents’ Association.
This was followed by the administration choosing to bar Associated Press (AP) reporters and photographers from spaces where access is limited, such as the Oval Office or Air Force One. This was because AP continued to use the term “Gulf of Mexico” instead of “Gulf of America”. The outlet has filed a lawsuit and the case remains ongoing.
