Almost three-quarters of Brits think Farage and Reform UK are ‘sleazy’

Over half said Farage was 'very sleazy'

It seems that the vast majority of Brits wouldn’t trust Nigel Farage or Reform UK as far as they could throw them.

This week, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that they have launched a criminal investigation into allegations Reform broke electoral law in an undercover Channel 4 investigation.

The investigation from Verbatim saw undercover reporters pose as a wealthy foreign backer looking to funnel money into Reform UK.

Footage from the investigation showed senior Reform figures seemingly willing to look for ways to circumvent electoral law to allow the backer to fund the party with a £500,000 donation.

Nigel Farage was present for a meeting in which this was discussed, with the Reform leader not objecting to anything mentioned.

This comes off the back of months of questions over Reform and Farage’s financial backing.

Along with Farage being the subject of a parliamentary investigation into whether he should have declared £5m he received from a crypto billionaire, Reform are still under investigation by the Met over money given to the party by Fiona Cottrell, who is the mother of longstanding Farage ally, George Cottrell.

Reform and Farage deny any wrongdoing on all accusations.

But all of the controversy has clearly resulted in their image being tarnished among the British public, who now associate one word with the party and its leader: sleaziness.

A new poll from YouGov has found that 73% of Brits describe Farage as sleazy, including 56% who think he is very sleazy.

Most dramatically, this includes 41% of Reform voters.

At the same time, 71% of voters think Reform as a whole is sleazy, a number that has risen by 20 points over the last two years.

By contrast, just over a third of voters think prime minister Andy Burnham and Tory leader Kemi Badenoch are sleazy, whilst 46% reckon the same of Green Party leader Zack Polanski.
