A Tube passenger started yelling racist abuse and punched someone in the face – because he was unhappy the train was busy.

The British Transport Police has released CCTV of the man after he launched a racist tirade on a passenger on the Piccadilly line – and then punched someone in the face when they tried to intervene.

He boarded the train at Green Park station in Westminster at about 11.50am on February 18.

After his attack the suspect left the train at Knightsbridge where he threatened a female passenger and chased her down the street.

A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: “On February 18 at approximately 11.50am, a man boarded a westbound tube train at Green Park.

“He became agitated at how busy the carriage was and launched a racist verbal outburst.

“A member of the public tried to intervene but was then punched in the face.
