County Durham police have been inundated with responses to a social media appeal for a man known as the ‘Big Cheese’.

The local police force sent out a request for information on 25-year-old Jason Cheesey, who is wanted in connection with a robbery and assault that is believed to have happened on April 11.

According to the post Mr Cheesey is from Crook but also has connections in the Bishop Auckland area.

They ask people with information to call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

But the social media post went unexpectedly viral after it was flooded with responses. You can probably guess what people had to say:

Since you are here

Since you are here, we wanted to ask for your help.

Journalism in Britain is under threat. The government is becoming increasingly authoritarian and our media is run by a handful of billionaires, most of whom reside overseas and all of them have strong political allegiances and financial motivations.

Our mission is to hold the powerful to account. It is vital that free media is allowed to exist to expose hypocrisy, corruption, wrongdoing and abuse of power. But we can't do it without you.
