A 15-year-old schoolgirl was one of two teenagers arrested after the former British ambassador to the US was savagely beaten at a busy London tube station.

Sir Christopher Meyer, 74, remains in hospital with injuries to his left eye, nose and lip after he was attacked in front of stunned tourists in the middle of the day.

He was left bloodied and bruised after the brazen assault at Victoria underground station yesterday (WED) afternoon.

British Transport Police (BTP) officers arrested two teenagers – a 16-year old boy and a 15-year-old girl – at the station.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Victoria Underground Station at 2.45 pm on Wednesday after receiving reports that a man had been seriously assaulted.

“A 16-year-old boy from Hillingdon and a 15-year-old girl from Croydon were both arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

“They have been released under investigation while enquiries into the incident continue.

Since you are here

Since you are here, we wanted to ask for your help.

Journalism in Britain is under threat. The government is becoming increasingly authoritarian and our media is run by a handful of billionaires, most of whom reside overseas and all of them have strong political allegiances and financial motivations.

Our mission is to hold the powerful to account. It is vital that free media is allowed to exist to expose hypocrisy, corruption, wrongdoing and abuse of power. But we can't do it without you.
