Sir Mick Davies has briefed the Conservative Campaign Headquarters to be on election footing, according to emerging reports.

The Telegraph’s political reporter Steven Swinford says the Tory Part’s chief executive told campaign HQ to have the ‘resources in place’ in event PM is defeated again.

But it is thought that the party are struggling to get donors to back another Theresa May campaign, which could lead to a leadership contest.

Last year it was revealed the Conservative Party received more money from dead people in legacies than they did from membership fees from living people.

Tory donors may fear giving money to Theresa May to fight another vote after she lost 2017’s crunch vote and slashed the Government’s majority.

The PM has said she won’t fight the next election, scheduled for 2022, but she could try and cling on if there’s a snap vote next month.

One MP told The Sun Online: “The party aren’t ready for another election.

“Financially, they’ve not got the money – I think we would go into debt with a snap election.”
