A man accused of murdering two nine-year-olds more than 30 years ago has appeared in court.

Russell Bishop, 51, is alleged to have killed Karen Hadaway and Nicola Fellows in Brighton in 1986.

The girls were found dead in Wild Park near the Moulsecoomb estate in Brighton on October 9, a day after they disappeared.

Bishop, who is represented by Joel Bennathan QC, appeared at the Old Bailey today dressed in grey tracksuit bottoms, trainers, and a grey t-shirt with three black stripes on the arms.

He held a pages of handwritten and printed notes during the short hearing but spoke only to confirm his name.

A panel of jurors were selected out of a panel of 50 and will be further whittled down to 14.

The trial will start when prosecutor Brian Altman QC opens the case over two days after the jury selection tomorrow (tues).

Jurors will then visit the sight where the two girls were found in East Sussex later this week.
