A serving police officer has today (tue) admitted sexually grooming a 15-year-old boy.

Detective Constable Jonathan Davies-Brewin, 50, was snared by a vigilante paedophile hunter posing as the teenager.

A court heard the senior cop arranged to meet the ‘boy’ following a conversation on social media.

However, when he arrived for the meeting in Colchester, Essex, the boy turned out to be a vigilante adult.

Today (tue), Davies-Brewin admitted one count of attempting to meet a boy under 16 years of age following grooming at Chelmsford Crown Court.

He is currently suspended his role with Essex Police, where he worked for the Force Support Unit, which responds to incidents involving weapons and plans and deploys firearms operations.

Detective Constable Jonathan Davies-Brewin, 49.

At a hearing at Colchester Magistrates’ Court last month, prosecutor Bob Rawlingson, said: “The incident followed a conversation on social media.

“Davies-Brewin travelled to meet, what he believed was, a 15-year-old boy.

“The person he was having a conversation with was a vigilante adult who set up the meeting.

“Police were called and Davies-Brewin was arrested.”

The court heard how the incident took place on June 14 with the intention of doing something to the boy which involved sexual activity with a child.

Mr Rawlingson said a number of sexual articles were found as well.

Davies-Brewin, of Colchester, Essex, will be sentenced on January 29.
