Broken Britain: Nine rough sleeper’s tents on one of London’s richest streets as weather freezes

The average price of a flat in William IV Street is over £1.3million

This is the shocking face of the UK, where the gap between poverty and wealth has never been more obvious. These images of numerous people sleeping rough on one of London’s richest streets is shameful.

The average price of a flat in William IV Street is over £1.3million, located in the City of Westminster. The area is close to Charing Cross Tube station and leads onto Covent Garden, one of the prime shopping and leisure areas of central London.

It is also a short walk to Parliament and 10 Downing Street, where politicians have not got a grip of the homeless and housing crisis.

Emergency shelters for the homeless have been open across London as temperatures are set to plummet to below zero in the capital, Sadiq Khan has said. However, these people do not seem to have been offered or taken up on the offer from the Mayor’s office.

The Met Office has forecast that temperatures will fall below freezing across large parts of London over next couple of nights.

Mr Khan said: “This time of year is often when the most bitter cold weather hits. As the temperature drops tonight, our approach means all emergency shelters across London will be open to help rough sleepers.”

“At City Hall, we are doing all we can to help people off the streets.”
