For any Summer addicts like me, this time of year can hit pretty hard. With the weather turning almost overnight and temperatures dropping faster than you can say ‘pass the black tights’ it can be a depressing time of year.

So, how do you cheer yourself up before the SAD kicks in? A quick show of hands around the office showed that we were worrying about our mid -season wardrobe (too warm for winter coat, too cold for going sans jacket), but more than a wardrobe makeover, what I really needed was a new hair do.

During the summer, I had naturally sun lightened locks (okay maybe not completely natural) but now in the new autumnal light this had started to look brash and with my natural regrowth coming through darker and that tan fast fading, I realised it was definitely time to refresh my look for the new season.

With that in mind I did some research on the hot new salons and everywhere I looked one newcomer stood out. The Matthew Curtis Salon at the hip Rosewood hotel was being talked about by every hair honcho in the know. Recently winning BEST NEW SALON at hairdressing’s top national competition, Most Wanted.

I picked up the phone straight away to bag my barnet some much needed attention.

Based in the ultra-luxe Rosewood hotel in the up and coming Holborn area, the Matthew Curtis Salon, headed by Creative Director, Jason Collier, is nestled away next to the Spa.

On arrival the enigmatic Collier greeted me personally at reception and ushered me inside like an old friend.

It was like walking into a time machine I found myself in a plush, sumptuous orient express style salon with no detail overlooked, the feeling was one of decadence and complete privacy.

Collier and his team are unmistakably charismatic, and within minutes of walking in I felt my winter blues drifting away.

I was given a detailed and attentive consultation where I was really listened to and then Collier set to work. Within minutes, he completely understood what I wanted, a new rich glossy tone to lift my grown-out summer look but working with my natural tones and keeping my blonde lengths!

Collier recommended a hair treatment as well as the rich but natural looking colour and snipped off my sun frazzled ends to leave me with a brand-new look which I absolutely loved.

Collier is clearly a master of his craft and is a sought after international hair tutor as well as spearheading the new Matthew Curtis at the Rosewood.

This was absolutely the mood lift I was seeking, in fact I couldn’t stop grinning! I had walked in mourning the Summer and as I walked out I was so happy with my new do I was glowing with Autumnal positivity!

I absolutely loved the hair, not to mention the 5 star service, the luxurious experience and the natural warmth of Collier and his team, which had felt like spending time being pampered by friends.

With this charming luxury concept salon adding to Curtis’s already impressive list of successes you can see there is no stopping the man

Matthew Curtis at the Rosewood also offer in-room styling to Rosewood guests, the salon is open 9.00-21.00, Monday to Sunday. For more info click here
