CELIA Organic Lager

Strength: 4.5% ABV

Brewed: Žatec, Czech Republic

Batch brewed in the cellars of a 14th century castle in the historic Czech town of Žatec, CELIA produces two different beers. Both are notably vegan-friendly and gluten-free, thanks to a silicon filtration technique used during the brewing process. As a result, the brewery takes great pride on providing beer that doesn’t leave drinkers feeling uncomfortably bloated, without compromising on flavour.

Made with just three ingredients – organic Saaz hops, Moravian malt and sand-filtered water – CELIA Organic is a premium Czech lager. When poured, the gold liquid is topped with a fair white head and has plenty of visible effervescence. On the nose, meaty yeast notes are joined with straw and some lightly toasted grain – corn, in particular. Corn notes continue on the palate, but with discrete subtlety, joined by further sweet malty notes. These are then balanced with a very slight hop bitterness, plus some mild grass and grapefruit rind flavours.

With a medium body and light, sweet finish CELIA Organic lager is especially gentle, complete with high carbonation. No, it’s not the most exciting lager on the market, but it’s a fine example of a beer that’s free from both wheat and gluten. CELIA Organic lager is also “brewed for food”, best paired with roasted chicken, grilled meats or seafood dishes.

Further information on CELIA can be found at celialager.co.uk.
