Some 42 MPs have written to the PM calling for the cuts to be reversed, with as many as 80 MPs said to have considered voting against the measures.
“It certainly doesn’t make a single woman any safer to do that because the threat to women comes from predatory and abusive men.”
The letter has received support from all wings of the party.
The Tories lost control of all 18 councils they had been in charge of.
Labour figures are split on whether they should turn more right-wing on issues such as immigration to chase Farage’s viral polling.
