Calls have been made for a General Election after Theresa May announced her departure date this morning.

The Tory leader confirmed she will leave office on 7th June after voicing her frustration at not been able to deliver Brexit.

Fighting back the tears she said serving as Prime Minister has been “the honour of my life”, saying she is proud to have been the second female leader of the UK.

Boris Johnson is in the running to be elected as the next leader, with 39 per cent of Conservatives saying they want him to be installed as the next PM.

But there are strong calls to let the public decide on the future leadership of the country with the Conservatives enduring “more brutal be-headings than Game of Thrones”, according to Tim Roache, General Secretary of GMB Union.

He said: “This Government has given us more farcical scenes than The Thick Of It and more brutal be-headings than Game of Thrones.

“But no one is going to be sorry when this series ends, working people are sick of the Tories focusing on who is going to take Theresa May’s job when thousands across the country are losing theirs.

“We cannot let Britain’s workers, industries and communities become the casualties of the next round of Tory internal wars.

“Let’s have a general election and let the people decide.”
