A bookmakers has been forced to suspend betting on a General Election to be called, following a flood of large bets in the last hour.

Rumours have been circulating that Theresa May is set to make a statement tonight.

A spokesman for Paddy Power said: “We’ve seen a rush of hefty bets on a General Election to take place within the last hour or so, and as a result, we are refusing to take any further bets on the market.

“It seems there ‘May’ be trouble ahead.”

If an election is called, Jeremy Corbyn is favourite to be next Prime Minister (4/1) followed by Michael Gove, Boris Johnson (both 5/1), Sajid Javid (6/1) and David Lidington (15/2).
