Fisheries minister George Eustice, a Brexiteer, who stood as a UKIP MEP candidate before joining the Conservative Party has resigned from the Government.

He has left his role over the PM’s decsion to delay Brexit if her deal is voted down in Parliament.

Eustice, MP for Camborne and Redruth in Cornwall, said he was leaving with “tremendous sadness”.

In his resignation letter to the PM, he said: “I fear that developments this week will lead to a sequence of events culminating in the EU dictating the terms of any extension requested and the final humiliation of our country.”

He continued: “We cannot negotiate a successful Brexit unless we are prepared to walk through the door.”
