A pilot has miraculously escaped injured after a plane crashed and ended up being stuck vertical in a field – like a dart.

The plane nose dived into a field in Wiltshire and crashed with its propeller buried in the ground.

It happened on Friday and amazingly when the light aircraft came tumbling out of the sky.

Incredibly, the pilot was able to walk away from the terrifying tumble after crashing head first into the field.

A photograph of the grounded plane was taken by the Bradford on Avon fire service and uploaded to Twitter.

It shows the red propeller plane stuck almost completely vertical – with its tail in the air – in a field.

In a Tweet, the fire service said: “Mobilised to an upside down aircraft. Luckily the pilot managed to self rescue and was up walking about on arrival.”

Multiple crews from Dorset and Wiltshire and Somerset were mobilised after a light aircraft crash crash landed on its roof near Norton St Philip just after 1pm this afternoon.

Crews from Bradford on Avon and Frome fire stations located the incident and confirmed one light aircraft had crash landed on its roof.

The pilot had managed to get out of the aircraft before the emergency services arrived and was walking around. He did not require medical attention.

The fire crews helped to right the aircraft off its roof.
