Murder Squad cops were today questioning two suspects after a man was found battered to death in a wealthy south west London suburb.

Police say 58-year-old Carl Whitehead’s body was discovered at an address in leafy Cromwell Road, Teddington, on Saturday afternoon.

Cause of death was established as “blunt force trauma” by a post mortem on Monday.

Police say a 37-year-old man and a 52-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of murder on Monday, and both remain in custody at a west London police station.

It is understood to be the 126th murder to be investigated by Scotland Yard this year.

A Met Police spokesman said: “Police were called by paramedics at 4.33pm on Saturday November 17th to reports of a body found at a residential address in Cromwell Road, Teddington.

“Officers attended and a man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

“Although formal identification has not taken place, police are confident the victim is 58-year-old Carl Whitehead from Teddington.

“Detectives from the South West Command Unit conducted the initial investigation into the unexplained death in close liaison with homicide detectives.
