Nothing says romance quite like an overnight stay in a cheap hotel in Croydon. Add a self-assembled gazebo, that turns your bog-standard bed into glittery, pink four-poster love raft, and sparks will fly.

This Valentine’s Day easyHotel, the budget hotel chain that offers rooms for as little as £19.99 per night, is ‘trialling’ a supplement that lets frugal couples hire a pink and orange four-poster self-assembled canopy (gazebo) for £5. Whoever said romance was dead?

To order the ultimate mood-setting room attachment (with sexy chiffon-effect netting), guests simply ask at reception and will be handed the 25kg prop on the spot – in exchange for a crisp £5 note.

Jorge Rodriguez, romantic experience coordinator at easyHotel, said:

“There’s no beginning to the steps we will take to add extra romantic touches to our guests’ experience at easyHotel.  For £5, and with a little imagination and a bit of elbow grease, guests can transform their rooms into romantic havens.”.

The trial is apparently taking place at easyHotel’s Croydon hotel. The press release reads. ‘Croydon, famed for its cultural life, parks, evocative street names and world-class cuisine, is often compared to Paris as a leading European romantic destination.’
