The Liverpool defender, who has one England cap, appeared at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court today accused of kicking Rachael Wall.

The court heard he had been captured on CCTV assaulting his partner, who he has been in a relationship with for 18 months.

Liverpool footballer Jon Flanagan arrives at Liverpool Magistrates Court. Mr Flanagan is accused of common assault following an incident on Duke Street in Liverpool city centre. January 2 2017.

Flanagan assaulted his partner at 3.20am on Duke Street on 22nd December. He has over fifty first team games for Liverpool, but it is unknown what action, if any, the club might take against him; he could possibly face the sack and a jail term for his actions.

District Judge Wendy Lloyd said she had been given a breakdown of the CCTV, which showed the Premier League star assaulting his partner on “several occasions” and even kicking her at one point in the footage.

The case was adjourned until the 17 January when he will be sentenced.
