House of Fraser customers are up in arms after refunds they were promised will now not be paid.

Mike Ashley, Sports Direct founder and Newcastle United owner, bought House of Fraser for £90m from administrators, in August. Customers were told that they would receive refunds for undelivered goods.

However, now customers will have to join other creditors on a long list of people who are chasing money from the administrator of House of Fraser, EY.

A spokesperson for House of Fraser said: “We cannot comment on individual cases, however the correct course of action for customers who have issues regarding goods purchased prior to 10 August is to contact the administrators at EY.”

Shoppers have tried to return faulty goods have found them returned by Royal Mail as House of Fraser’s warehouse refused to accept them.

Sports Direct has no legal obligation to refund orders made before House of Fraser went into administration.

Kevin Keegan has accused Mike Ashley of running an ‘empire of self-harm’ at Newcastle and has vowed never to set foot inside St James’ Park again while he remains owner of the club.

Keegan said: “I look forward to the day when Newcastle is free of the man who has lurched from one bad decision to another, run an empire of self-harm and handed money and power to people who deserved neither.

“I don’t want to share my oxygen with these people.”
