The Queen has approved the Prime Minister’s request for Parliament to be prorogued for 32 days, the longest suspension in modern memory.
The move has sparked fierce criticism from across the political divide.
The US president reaffirmed his backing for Mr Johnson via Twitter just days after the pair met in person at the G7 summit in Biarritz.
The Prime Minister will temporarily close down the Commons from the second week of September until October 14.

Sterling slid 0.74% against the dollar and 0.77% against the euro in early trading on Wednesday.
A motion has been submitted to the Court of Session in Edinburgh in a case taken by a cross-party group of more than 70 MPs and peers.
