The leafy suburb of Chiswick is the jewel of West London. Beautiful enough to attract the rich and famous, but far away from Central London enough not to cost the Earth. Chiswick High Road that slices the town in two has a certain continental feel to it, while the traditional public houses maintain its Englishness. Branching off from the High Road are rows upon rows of elegant, tree-lined avenues where large semi-detached homes gracefully stand.

Chiswick is essentially a family town, safety really isn’t an issue here. Although many businesses reside within the town’s limits, these tend to be pushed to the side, meaning the centre is preserved for homes, restaurants, shops and churches. It really is the perfect place to raise a family within the M25. You get all that’s great about London in a beautifully green, friendly town. It won’t surprise you that many celebrities have lived here over the years.

Famous for

The first bomb to hit London in World World II landed in the Turnham Green area of Chiswick. It’s also the setting for many family-based sitcoms such as My Family, Outnumbered and Two Point Four Children.

Positives

It’s a genuine pleasure to walk the streets of Chiswick and it has schools, shops and other amenities to rival any other part of London.

Negatives

If you want to live in Chiswick, it’s going to cost you, the average a property went for in the last 12 months was almost £900,000. But trust me it’s worth it.

Transport links

The District Line runs parallel to Chiswick High Road and stops at Chiswick Park, Turnham Green, Stamford Brook and Ravenscourt Park and will get you into Central London within 20 minutes. Chiswick Train Station sits closer to the river and will get you into Waterloo within 30 minutes.

Schools

There are a number of outstanding private and state schools within Chiswick, but considering the price tag, you’d probably expect that.

Drink/Eat

There are dozens of great eateries in Chiswick, independent and chain. It’s the ideal location for a romantic date or a family gathering. Pubs are also plentiful, especially those of the Fuller’s variety, with Griffin Brewery just down the road.
