Cool and quirky Camden Town is London’s answer to San Francisco. Although it’s in North London, being just above Kings Cross it can still easily pass as being central. When you alight from the tube for the first time the High Street that greets you is mesmerising. Giant boots kicking into buildings, tattoo parlours and alternative shops sit on this busy road. Camden Town is full of wonderful weirdness.

The market is a great place to find alternative clothing and other curiosities, while the Stables market is just a great place to hang out. The whole area is a multitude of different cultures, you can easily find yourself cross legged drinking Moroccan tea one minute and dangling your legs over the canal while eating Chinese food the next. Music is a big part of Camden Town, many famous acts started out here and there are several gigs around the town every night.

Famous for

Soulstress Amy Winehouse lived and died here. Chris Evans famously sold all the marital possessions from his marriage to Billie Piper in Camden Market. The cult film Withnail and I was set here in Camden in the 1960s.

Positives

This is without doubt one of the coolest places to be in London. If you love culture and its many exotic varieties, you’ll love Camden Town.

Negatives

Because of its popularity it is a tourist hotspot, so if peace and quiet is what you are looking for, it probably isn’t the place for you.

Transport Links

Schools

North Bridge House Prep School is an outstanding private school in the area and The Camden School for Girls is an excellent all girls institution.
