There has been astonishment and ridicule after Donald Trump decided to deliver a nonsensical speech about the Washington DC reflecting pool on the eve of the midterms elections.
On Tuesday, millions of Americans are going to the polls to decide who controls the two chambers of Congress.
The House of the Representatives and the Senate are both currently controlled by the Republicans but after months of dissatisfaction and anger with Trump many believe the Democrats could flip both chambers.
Should this happen, it would likely leave Trump as a lame duck for the final two years of his presidency.

The day before these potentially seismic elections, Trump gave a speech from Washington. But instead of trying to convince people to go out and vote for his party and its candidates, the president decided to ramble about the Washington DC reflecting pool and pipes.
Trump joked that he was “giving serious thought” to changing the name of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool to the “Trump Reflecting Pool.”
The pool has become a symbol of Trump’s idiocy after his botched renovation attempts on the landmark left it damaged.
An estimated $16m makeover of the pool attempted to reseal and paint the pool, which had long been beset by structural failures and leaks.
But the pool had continued to be plagued by algae, and pieces of the blue sealant peeled off within days after its application.
During his speech, Trump also decided to carry out a show and tell with pictures of the inside of pipes.
Many were left baffled by the speech, with Sky News’ US correspondent Mark Stone saying it suggested Trump’s communications team “have entirely lost control of the president and what he is doing.”
The Mirror’s US political editor Mikey Smith wrote on X: “I cannot stress this enough, the midterm elections are tomorrow.”
Senior Democrat Chuck Schumer wrote: “Donald Trump’s pathetic closing message as his illegal war rages, his corruption mounts, and the inflation he caused persists.”
There were many other reactions like this as well.
