Donald Trump was brutally booed by fans in New York as he attended a crunch NBA game, before he then appeared to fall asleep during the match.
On Monday night, the president decided to return to his home city to watch the New York Knicks take on the San Antonio Spurs in game three of the NBA Finals.
This made Trump the first sitting US president to attend the NBA Finals.
Now, it doesn’t take a political genius to know that Trump is pretty unpopular in his home town. The Big Apple is a traditionally liberal city and last year democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani claimed a landslide victory in the city’s mayoral election.
Trump’s presence at the game also meant increased security checks at the stadium, leading to ticket holders waiting for hours in queues outside to get in.
But, with tickets for the Knicks game at Madison Square Garden going for thousands of dollars, some wondered if the wealthy crowd in attendance might temper the anti-Trump sentiment.
Well, these predictions were wide of the mark. Very wide.
When Trump appeared on the big screen during the national anthem before the game, boos could be heard on the TV coverage.
It’s only when you see footage from spectators inside the arena though that you realise just how deafening the boos were.
Just take a look at some of the videos below…
The game was one of the biggest in the New York Knicks’ history and was a tense affair ending in a 111-115 defeat for the them.
But despite the drama and magnitude of the occasion, it seems it all got a bit much for the 79-year-old Trump, who appeared to rest his eyes for a little bit whilst the game was going on.
