Donald Trump has been mocked after appearing to brag about the US trade deficit increasing.
It’s not unusual for people to be baffled and/or infuriated by what Trump posts on social media. Whether it’s unhinged rants about people he disagrees with or AI slop, his social media activity usually gets attention.
But recently it’s been a slightly more mundane post that has been the subject of mockery for Donald after he appeared to boast about the US trade deficit widening.
A nation’s trade deficit is what happens if a country earns less from what it exports than what it spends on exports. If that sounds like something a country doesn’t want to happen, it’s because it is.
And it’s certainly not something you’d expect a country’s leader to share on social media.
Well, that’s exactly what Trump did.
In a post on Truth Social, he wrote “US trade deficit widens by the most in nearly 34 years,” before linking to a Reuters article.
The post prompted many to wonder whether the president actually knew what a trade deficit is.
The post might be the latest proof – as if any were needed – that Trump doesn’t really understand the economy.
