A gruesome story has emerged from South Africa after a suspected poacher was killed and eaten by lions, close to the Kruger National Park over the weekend.
The man’s remains were found at a private game reserve near Hoedspruit in the northern province of Limpopo on Saturday, where animals are regularly poached. A loaded hunting rifle was discovered near the body, which has been devoured by the wild animals. Only his head was left relatively untouched.
“It seems the victim was poaching in the game park when he was attacked and killed by lions. They ate his body, nearly all of it, and just left his head and some remains,” Limpopo police spokesman Moatshe Ngoepe told AFP.
“We are still trying all other means, including the Home Affairs Department, to get his history, which may lead us to his residential place”.
A local worker said” “The head was still there but the lions had eaten most of the rest,” reported the MailOnline.
“A scream was heard and the lions were scattered by the sound of gunshots but it was too late to do anything for him. He was eaten”.
