Leyton stab victim named as Spanish national David Martinez

The 26 year old was stabbed six times “all over his body”.

A man who was stabbed ina flat and ran into the street where he died has been named as David Martinez.

The 26-year-old died after being attacked in Leyton, east London – horrified locals said he “ran for his life” screaming “help me” and collapsed in the street covered in stab wounds.

Neighbours and paramedics battled desperately to save his life but he passed away at the scene.

Police say the victim knew the murderer and the incident is not gang-related.

His death marks the 21st murder investigation launched in London this year.

A spokesman for the Met police said: Although formal identification has not yet taken place, detectives are confident the victim is David Martinez, 26, a Spanish national.

“A murder investigation has been launched after police were called to North Birkbeck Road, E11 at 4.26pm Wednesday, 6 March following reports of a stabbing.

“Officers, London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance attended and found a man suffering from knife injuries.

“Mr Martinez died at the scene at 17.10pm. His next of kin has been informed.

“A crime scene remains in place.

“At this early stage, it is believed the fatal attack on the man took place at a nearby residential address.

“The victim then left the scene before collapsing in the street. It is believed the victim and suspect were know to each other.

“The incident is not believed to be gang-related.

“A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

“The Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating and appealing for witnesses to come forward.”
