An emotive speech by 16-year-old Lauren Stocks is going viral after she shed light on the state of Britain’s schools.

The GCSE student won a standing ovation following the speech which touched on the mental health of students and their well-being.

Stocks rubbished statistics that found three in ten children in every classroom suffer with mental illness, saying the figure should be closer to half if not more.

She said: “I could have walked into any food tech, history, art, maths classroom and just watched seas of spaced out, stressed out, depressed kids in a battlefield where they can’t afford pens and paper.

“It is a disgusting sight and we cannot sit on our hands  any longer.”

Journalism in Britain is under threat. The government is becoming increasingly authoritarian and our media is run by a handful of billionaires, most of whom reside overseas and all of them have strong political allegiances and financial motivations.

Our mission is to hold the powerful to account. It is vital that free media is allowed to exist to expose hypocrisy, corruption, wrongdoing and abuse of power. But we can't do it without you.
