A Tory councillor decided to take to social media to make his own twisted donation to the murdered MP Jo Cox. Tory Dominic Peacock said he would “donate the steam of my piss” in memory of her brutal murder.

The member for East Riding of Yorkshire Council, claimed he was “sick and tired” of hearing about the mum’s murder by a deranged man with far-right beliefs.

On a page asking people to donate cash to charity in Jo’s name, he wrote on Facebook: “I’ve just donated the steam off my p*ss!”

He shot after a huge backlash and said: “I am sick and tired of this woman’s death being used against the Brexit cause.”

There has been widespread revulsion at his comments and he has since taken the comment down and attempted an apology.

Journalism in Britain is under threat. The government is becoming increasingly authoritarian and our media is run by a handful of billionaires, most of whom reside overseas and all of them have strong political allegiances and financial motivations.

Our mission is to hold the powerful to account. It is vital that free media is allowed to exist to expose hypocrisy, corruption, wrongdoing and abuse of power. But we can't do it without you.
