An effigy of Theresa May wielding two fingers has been erected on the White Cliffs of Dover.

The Conservative leader is dressed in a full Union Jack skirt with her two fingers raised looking out across the Channel.

It is unclear at this time who is responsible for the statue, but it is believed to have already been taken down.

Simon Hare told Kent Online: “Whether you agree or disagree with Brexit, it was crass, vulgar and insulting to any Europeans coming into Dover on the ferry and a ridiculous message to send to Europe when we are about to start negotiating our exit from the EU!”

The statue is thought to be a reflection of May’s “hard” stance on Europe with months of negotiations set to commence after the General Election.

Since you are here

Since you are here, we wanted to ask for your help.

Journalism in Britain is under threat. The government is becoming increasingly authoritarian and our media is run by a handful of billionaires, most of whom reside overseas and all of them have strong political allegiances and financial motivations.

Our mission is to hold the powerful to account. It is vital that free media is allowed to exist to expose hypocrisy, corruption, wrongdoing and abuse of power. But we can't do it without you.
