One of the wealthiest people on the planet, George Soros, has handed over £400k to a campaign that aims to halt Brexit, according to The Guardian.

Soros and another two backers are linked to Best for Britain. The group is expected to launch a UK wide promotional campaign to push for a new referendum on Brexit.

The campaign will aim to “wake the country up assert that Brexit is not a done deal. That it’s not too late to stop Brexit.”

Best for Britain chairman Lord Malloch-Brown, a former Labour minister, said Mr Soros was a “valued” supporter but small donors had contributed more.

Best for Britain was co-founded by Gina Miller, who took the UK government to court over the triggering of the Article 50.

Mr Soros, a Hungarian-born US citizen, made a fortune in 1992 betting against sterling on Black Wednesday.
