Former London football coach and his lodger abused boys

A former football coach and his lodger have been jailed for abusing young boys he befriended.

Serial paedophile Chetin Hussyin, 66, groomed two of the victims when they were in their teens while he worked as a youth football coach in north London in the early 1970s.

He then groomed an even younger boy when he became a social worker in the mid-1970s, and went on to abuse the child with his then lodger Robert Thompson.

The evil duo were only brought to justice when one of their victims came forward two years ago to report the abuse to police.

Now detectives believe there may be more victims, and urged them to come forward.

The court heard that between 1971 and 1973, Hussyin worked as an under 16s football coach in Haringey where he befriended two victims, a then 16-year-old and a 14-year-old, who he abused at his then home in Hornsey, north London.

In 1977, Hussyin became a youth worker before training to be a social worker, giving him access to a third victim who was just eight or nine years old at the time.

He too was invited to Hussyin’s house where he would be sexually assaulted.

By this point, Hussyin had moved to an address in Highbury, north London, with his lodger Thompson.

The younger boy would stay over at the property as his parents trusted Hussyin due to his profession. But the sexual abuse continued.

In 1981, Hussyin and Thompson moved address again to Muswell Hill in north London.

The youngest victim, who was 11 at that time, continued to be sexually assaulted by Hussyin; and Thompson also became involved in the abuse.

After the victim came forward in May 2016, officers from the Met’s Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command (CASO) launched an immediate investigation.

The first two victims subsequently came forward.

Hussyin, of Liskeard, Cornwall, and Thompson, 63, of Maida Vale, west London, were jailed for a combined total of 19 years for sexual offences committed against three boys between 1971 and 1984.

Hussyin was sentenced on Friday to 14 years imprisonment at Blackfriars Crown Court after being found guilty of two counts of buggery, two counts of indecency with a child; and, eight counts of indecent assault.

Thompson was sentenced to five years in jail after being found guilty of two counts of indecent assault.

Detective Constable Dee Molloy, of CASO, said: “Hussyin abused his authority and access to children as a football coach and social worker to befriend young boys before sexually assaulting them, at times with his lodger Thompson.

“We would like to thank the victims for their courage in coming forward, their evidence has been crucial in securing these convictions.

“We believe there may well be further victims of Hussyin and Thompson out there, and would urge anyone with information to come forward and report it to police. You will be treated with the upmost respect and confidentiality.”
