If you’re anything like me and can’t seem to remember to actually water the plants in your house, you might be looking for an alternative to brighten your home with greenery.

A home isn’t a home without some plants. With the ability to instantly provide visitors to your home with a something interesting to look at, succulent plants are a great way to liven up any room in the house. This, combined with the fact that they’re incredibly easy plants to take care means you might be wanting to create your own indoor garden.

Elise from Celebricious shares how to inexpensively create a succulent garden, and how to take best care of it:

1. Items for Your Succulent Garden

In order to create a quality garden with flourishing plants, you’ll need to get some specific items such as:

Pebbles

Instead of tiny pebbles, opt for slightly larger stones to allow excess water to drain out of the pot once you water them. You can choose a colour of your choice, and can even pick one to suit your homes’ interior design!

Activated filter carbon

Also known as activated charcoal, activated filter carbon acts as purifier for the air for your plants. It provides them with a healthy environment to grow.

Specialist succulent soil

Instead of opting for any old soil that you find in your garden, specifically choose a soil that is suitable for succulents. Soil that is grainy, sandy or bitty in texture is best as it allows the water to drain through, eliminating the risk of destroying and drowning your plants.

Your plants!

The most important thing – your succulents! Various species of cacti are popular within succulent gardens, along with the Crown of Thorns.

Creating Your Indoor Garden

Once you’ve gathered all of the items you’ll need to create your garden, it’s time to start planting! You can create your garden by following the steps outlines below:

  1. Insert a small layer of pebbles at the base of your pot or terrarium. 2. On top of this, add a layer of the activated filter carbon. 3. Add a slightly larger layer of the succulent soil, and use this to even out the two previous layers. 4. Remove your succulents from their pots and plant in the soil.

As you can see, creating your own succulent garden doesn’t have to be a tricky or expensive job. In fact, many of the items you need can be purchased at a local DIY or garden centre, and it only takes a few minutes to create such a gorgeous feature for your home!
